How to Wash Polyester Coats

Polyester is a material that is found in nearly every article of clothing. It is often present as a blend in cotton t-shirts, sweaters, or raincoats.

Before washing, check the care label: Always check the care label on your raincoat for specific washing instructions. Some polyester raincoats may require dry cleaning, while others can be machine washed.

Most manufacturers recommend machine washing your raincoat on a gentle setting. Some suggest (or require) washing with a specialized fabric cleaner designed for synthetic fabrics. If you’d prefer, you could take your raincoat to a dry cleaner to ensure it gets a professional treatment.

What exactly is polyester?

PES is a common abbreviation for polyester. It is a synthetic fiber made from linear macromolecules. Products made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) are most often called polyester fibers.

Polyester fibers are very light, do not wrinkle and do not absorb much moisture. As a result, they are often used to make functional clothing, for example.

In addition, polyester is very easy to recycle.

What should you pay attention to when washing polyester?

Polyester is a durable, wrinkle-resistant material. However, we recommend that you turn each item inside out before washing to avoid lint.

Very often, clothes made of polyester will build up static electricity after washing. To avoid this, use fabric softener – but never use it on functional clothing.

At what temperature should you wash polyester?

Wash polyester on the “Synthetics” program, which is a gentler washing process. Choose a temperature based on the label. If there is no longer a label on the garment, wash colored polyester at a maximum of 30 degrees, and whites at 40 degrees. For very stubborn stains, you can choose an even higher temperature, but never wash at a temperature higher than 60 degrees.

How to remove stains from 100% polyester?

Since it is a synthetic fiber, removing the stain will be quite easy. Simply wash any water-based stains by hand using regular detergent.

However, greasy stains can be a problem with synthetic materials. In this case, use a cow bile laundry soap. Wash the stain by hand in warm water with laundry soap, washing until most of it is gone. Then wash in the washing machine at the highest possible temperature, using the appropriate amount of detergent.

How to dry 100% polyester?

Naturally, in the warm air. But polyester clothing can be dried in a dryer. Here, set the “Synthetics” drying program, which does not damage the fibers. Also important that you leave the clothing inside out during drying.

For classic drying, place the garment on a hanger and let it dry near a heating element – do not place the clothing directly on a radiator or near a stove or fireplace.

If you want to get rid of more moisture before drying, wrap the garment in a terry towel and gently wring it out. Then place it on a hanger and dry.

How to iron polyester?

Most polyester fabrics do not need to be ironed because they do not wrinkle. However, if your garment develops unsightly wrinkles when you wash or dry it, you can iron it with a classic iron.

Set the iron temperature to a setting that will not burn the fabric.
